Newspapers all over the world are proclaiming the recent announcement from CERN scientists that the so-called “God particle,” the explanation for “why galaxies, planets, and even humans have any right to exist,” as an historic and monumental discovery.
The God particle no longer a theory
Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku has said the discovery could begin to explain eternal questions sometimes called the mind of God: “To me, when we finally dicsover the ‘God particle’, this is just the beginning. This can open the floodgates for a whole new branch of theoretical physics.
“There are eternal questions that cannot be answered in the framework of conventional physics. Is time travel possible, are there gateways to other universes . . . are there parallel universes?”

Despite these claims, the science has yet to be settled according to accepted scientific protocol.
Results in particle physics are ranked on a scale from zero to five “sigma.” Last December the ATLAS and CMS teams said their data showed a two-sigma likelihood that the Higgs particle has a mass of about 125 gigaelectron volts (GeV)—about 125 times the mass of a proton, a positively charged particle in an atom’s nucleus.
“For the first time there was a case where we expected to [rule out] the Higgs, and we weren’t able to do so,” said Tim Barklow, an experimental physicist with the ATLAS Experiment who’s based at Stanford University’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
A two-sigma finding translates to about a 95 percent chance that results are not due to a statistical fluke.
While that might seem impressive, it falls short of the stringent five-sigma level that high-energy physicists traditionally require for an official discovery. Five sigma means there’s a less than one in a million probability that a finding is due to chance.
“We make these rules and impose them on ourselves because, when you are exploring on the frontier, it is easy to fool yourself,” said Michael Peskin, a theoretical physicist also at SLAC.
Of course, we congratulate the scientists though with the caveat that this discovery merely advances a theory, it doesn’t prove it. What makes this discovery of particular note is the strenuous guidelines these scientists have followed to reach a conclusion that even they do not officially recognize.
Sadly, the same is not true of the so-called climate change research. There has been no similar level of proof for the current politically accepted “science.” In fact, particle scientists at the same CERN facility cast doubt on the climate science last year, a discovery largely ignored by the same media hailing the “God particle” discovery.
CERN’s 8,000 scientists may not be able to find the hypothetical Higgs boson, but they have made an important contribution to climate physics, prompting climate models to be revised.
The first results from the lab’s CLOUD (“Cosmics Leaving OUtdoor Droplets”) experiment published in Nature today confirm that cosmic rays spur the formation of clouds through ion-induced nucleation. Current thinking posits that half of the Earth’s clouds are formed through nucleation. The paper is entitled Role of sulphuric acid, ammonia and galactic cosmic rays in atmospheric aerosol nucleation.
This has significant implications for climate science because water vapour and clouds play a large role in determining global temperatures. Tiny changes in overall cloud cover can result in relatively large temperature changes.
Unsurprisingly, it’s a politically sensitive topic, as it provides support for a “heliocentric” rather than “anthropogenic” approach to climate change: the sun plays a large role in modulating the quantity of cosmic rays reaching the upper atmosphere of the Earth.
The hypothesis that cosmic rays and the sun hold the key to the global warming debate has been Enemy No. 1 to the global warming establishment ever since it was first proposed by two scientists from the Danish Space Research Institute, at a 1996 scientific conference in the U.K. Within one day, the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Bert Bolin, denounced the theory, saying, “I find the move from this pair scientifically extremely naive and irresponsible.” He then set about discrediting the theory, any journalist that gave the theory credence, and most of all the Danes presenting the theory — they soon found themselves vilified, marginalized and starved of funding, despite their impeccable scientific credentials.
The mobilization to rally the press against the Danes worked brilliantly, with one notable exception. Nigel Calder, a former editor of The New Scientist who attended that 1996 conference, would not be cowed. Himself a physicist, Mr. Calder became convinced of the merits of the argument and a year later, following a lecture he gave at a CERN conference, so too did Jasper Kirkby, a CERN scientist in attendance. Mr. Kirkby then convinced the CERN bureaucracy of the theory’s importance and developed a plan to create a cloud chamber — he called it CLOUD, for “Cosmics Leaving OUtdoor Droplets.”
But Mr. Kirkby made the same tactical error that the Danes had — not realizing how politicized the global warming issue was, he candidly shared his views with the scientific community.
“The theory will probably be able to account for somewhere between a half and the whole of the increase in the Earth’s temperature that we have seen in the last century,” Mr. Kirkby told the scientific press in 1998, explaining that global warming may be part of a natural cycle in the Earth’s temperature.
The global warming establishment sprang into action, pressured the Western governments that control CERN, and almost immediately succeeded in suspending CLOUD. It took Mr. Kirkby almost a decade of negotiation with his superiors, and who knows how many compromises and unspoken commitments, to convince the CERN bureaucracy to allow the project to proceed. And years more to create the cloud chamber and convincingly validate the Danes’ groundbreaking theory.
And it seems that nothing has changed with the powers that are pushing climate change and their minions in the media.
This new finding of 63 scientists from 17 European and U.S. institutes from an experiment that’s been ongoing since 2009 is, if we may paraphrase Vice President Joe Biden, a big deal. Which is exactly why the mainstream media, with so much invested in global warming hysteria, is letting last week’s announcement from CERN pass like a brief summer shower, ignoring it.
Even CERN’s own director general, Rolf-Dieter Heuer, is trying to avoid the meaning of the findings.
He told Germany’s Die Welt Online that he’s “asked the colleagues to present the results clearly, but not to interpret them. That would go immediately into the highly political arena of the climate change debate.”
The difference in the two discoveries is all about agenda, money, and power. Politicians and global bureaucrats see the climate change agenda as a means of controlling the public, not only what they think but how they act. And it gives reasons for massive redistribution of wealth, not from the wealthy to the poor, but from everyone to the government in the form of taxes and idiotic carbon exchanges. Corporations are likewise in on the agenda because of the heavy stimulus – accumulated from higher taxes and fees – paid out to the so-called “green” economy. As we have pointed out before, the same nuclear and oil industries that are being attacked by “green” proponents are at the forefront of developing solar and wind facilities, receiving massive subsidies and guaranteed profits.
The government of Japan is part of the climate change scam along with the Japanese media. While these CERN scientists were fighting to prove their theory, Japan’s economy and culture have been increasingly structured by legislation and propaganda to accept the pseudo science of the cult-like proponents of climate change.
- Japanese children are taught in government schools about global warming – “climate change” – as a proven science.
- The Japanese government has plans to enact an environmental tax based on climate change. (October 2012)
- A global carbon trading scheme – of which Japan is a part – has already cost Japanese taxpayers billions of Yen from the government’s purchase of worthless “carbon credits“. Businesses that also participate in this scheme have passed their costs onto consumers. The Metropolitan Government of Tokyo has its own program to skim money from businesses and families.
- An entire industry of solar and wind energy has been born from climate change, an industry which energy production is so inefficient and costly that it can only sustain itself from massive taxpayer-funded subsidies.
The Japanese economy has enough problems without having to fund climate change schemes that seem, by this latest evidence, to be wasteful and, in the end, ineffective. At the very least, this evidence should cause Japanese taxpayers to question the motives and integrity of their government.
The Fukushima disaster has uncovered a government which has been deceitful, corrupt, and untrustworthy as regards the nuclear industry. It should not be a great leap to assume the same about climate change in light of the CERN findings.
The pseudo science of climate change should be held to the same standards as that of the Higgs-boson science. The fact that it isn’t is proof that science, like the economy, has now become the purview of politicians and bureaucrats, all aided by a compliant corporate media which no longer presents facts, but propaganda. To the delight of these same groups, CERN has discovered a particle that many will use to discredit God (and religion) itself and they are lauded and hailed as heroes. And, yet, these same scientists can cast doubt on climate change and they are either ignored or attacked. There is something wrong with that.
